Good thing I didn't know this...

So right after Mallory was born the doctor showed us the umbilical cord and it had a knot in it. My doctor was definitely surprised to see this but didn't really say anything about it. I was kind of surprised but didn't really care at the time because there were lots of other things going on. So I just remembered it and looked it up. Thank god this was not discovered until after she was born because I would have been a complete mess if I knew about it. Its pretty rare, about 1% of babies have it and it happens from all the moving around they do. They can somehow make a loop and get through and and it forms a knot. This makes sense that she would have one because she moved around SO much starting really early on. I felt her doing flips constantly. Generally there aren't any complications from it but there is a 5% chance of very bad complications. I was asking my doctor about having late ultrasounds all the time to check on the size of the baby and she always said I didn't need one. Well its a good thing I didn't have one because if this were disocovered I would have been very scared for the rest of the pregnancy and she may have recommended a c-section. It also makes me really glad that I did choose the induction because who knows what could have happened if I waited until she was overdue. This is just too scary to even think about. We are very lucky.

That is scary! I read your blog every day & I didn't notice the post on getting induced. Was that always there? Or I would've called the day before! I am definitely calling you tonight!!

It wasn't on there until after I had her. I wrote it the night before but just saved it as a draft until after she was born. I think I put that in there, I should specify though because a few people are confused.
