Mallory has been here for exactly one week! As with everything else about having children, it seems like it was much longer than that but also seems like it hasn't been that long at the same time. I remember when Max was born I kind of felt like the days started running together and I forgot when I did what and I wished I had kept track better. Well I have a blog now and thats what its for so here is what we have been up to...:
We've had alot of visitors...
Josh came by on Sunday to meet his new niece (and play with Max):
Jessica stopped by on Monday:
Rachael came over and spent some time here on Tuesday:
Then we had our doctor's appointment that I talked about earlier:
Yesterday I took Mallory for our first walk:
She enjoyed it (slept the whole time)
Laurie and Lennon came over yesterday afternoon:
Mark decided to learn how to cut the grass yesterday. He borrowed our neighbors thing (what is that called?) and I had to get a picture of him being such a man. Its so unlike him to do anything like this:
Gigi and Poppop came over to help with bath time last night. Someone does NOT like being naked or bathed at all:
So everything is kind of starting to feel normal already. Mark takes Max to daycare in the morning. I usually have a visitor during the day. Then Mark or my mom brings Max home in the afternoon. I try to pay alot of attention to him around that time and it usually works because Mallory sleeps alot in the afternoon. My mom or both of my parents have been here every afternoon/evening to help out but tonight was the first night I felt like we aren't so dependent. I feel good enough to start doing laundry (not that I want to) and doing more by myself with one or both kids. Max is starting to act like his sweet self around me again. We usually go outside with him and let him run around a little before dinner. We eat dinner early with Max. Tonight was a dinner that our neighbor made for us which was great! Then his bathtime/bedtime routine is the same as it has always been. Mallory is still sleeping for most of the day which is nice because I can do whatever I need to do during the day and Max isn't too neglected at night but I am ready for her to sleep more at night already.
Shes not too bad during the night but no matter what, she is up and not interested in sleeping from 9-11 and thats exactly when I want to get in bed. So I end up being up way later than I want to be and then not getting enough sleep. Whats interesting is when I was pregnant I would always say that the baby was so active at night when I would sit on the couch. Well thats exactly when she is active now. She hasn't changed. Its also a vicious cycle because I'll feed her, then she'll fall asleep, then I'll hear her poop, then I'll change her and then shes up. Then I have to start that routine over again. Last night was bad because I change her right on our bed just because its easier and if I take her into her room to change her I feel bad if Max hears her crying. Well last night she pooped all over our sheets and we had to change them in the middle of the night. Not fun. I know that sleeping during the day is an option but I've never been very good at it. I'll get back in bed after Max goes to daycare but I don't fall asleep right away and then I feel like I'm wasting the day. Its hard for me to just stop what I'm doing and take a nap.
Today I had someone come over to take some professional pictures of Mallory. Its a girl from one of the chatboards I go on who is trying to build up her portfolio and needed some newborn pictures. I happily volunteered! It was hard work trying to get Mallory in all of the different positions and I ended up being peed and pooped on a few times but she was great and I can't wait to see the pictures. I will of course put them on here as soon as I can. Max was really cute this afternoon, he comes right up to me while I'm holding or nursing the baby now and will climb right up to sit next to me. He completely ignores her and its funny because he will literally just sit on her or put a toy on her or something as if she is not there. But he picked up her pacifier tonight and we were saying "give it to Mallory" he came over to her and put it up to her mouth! She didn't take it but it was so cute that he was being a good big brother and giving it to her. I think he is going to love her soon. Here we are when Max got home today:
I'm already starting to worry about what the fall is going to be like with me going back to work and Max not being in full time daycare. I know it will all work out but its hard to picture it right now. I just want what is best for everyone and I don't know what that is right now. I know alot is going to change over the summer so hopefully by the time august/september rolls around I'll feel good about whatever the plans are.
