Max's last day of daycare is tomorrow. I just went back and read my post from August 11, last year, the first day of daycare. I was so nervous and sad about him starting because it meant me going back to work full time and being away from him for the first time ever. Here we are a year later and I'm going back to work again after my second baby and worried about a whole new set of issues. I am so sad about him not going anymore for lots of reasons. First of all, it has just been great for him. I know he loves it there and he is kept busy for the whole day which is really hard for me to do at this point when he is home. Of course he has had good and bad days there but overall, it has been a great year. Second of all, I have had such a nice summer. Don't get me wrong, I love being with Max but lets face the facts...he's tough. He does well when he has a structured day and that is hard to do when you have an infant in the mix. I am so lucky that I got to have alone time with Mallory. I don't think many people get to do that with their second child. So after tomorrow, I'll be home with 2 kids for 2 weeks before I start work. I'm not sure what we are going to do but I'm sure we will get through it. We do have plans to go to Salisbury for a few days so that will be fun.
Besides being a little sad about going back to work and having a new routine and adjusting to everything, I also just don't understand where the time went. What have I been doing for the last 12 weeks? Why didn't I clean out the basement/go through the pile of papers on the kitchen counter/go through my drawers and get rid of things I haven't worn in 5 years? Maybe I wasn't so productive every day but I do know that I took lots of walks with several different strollers, spent many evenings sitting on a lawn chair talking with my neighbors and watching our kids play, watched Rachael Ray and The View, had a glass of wine almost every night while I tried to juggle cooking dinner, soothing a crying infant and entertaining/feeding a 2 year old, went out to lunch a few times, met my mom at Starbucks many times, chased Max around the house listening to his amazing, contagious laugh, sang lots of songs, read lots of books, took naps on the couch with my baby girl sleeping on my arm and perfected the art of getting an infant and toddler in and out of the car by myself. All of those every day things have made it an amazing summer that I will look back on and wish I could relive.

This made me have tears in my eyes. Max and Mallory are very lucky to have you for a Mom!
Your basement and closet will be around forever but Mallory and Max will only be this age once and you are making the most of it. You wont remember cleaning out your closet but you will never forget the naps you took with Mallory and the books you read with max. it sounds to me like you had the most amazing productive summer as a new mom of two! you are a great mom!
