Good Bye Virginia!!

I have been super busy. We went to VA Beach for the weekend to move all of our stuff. It actually went pretty smoothly. My parents came to help out and Mark's parents came for one day too. By around 8:00 last night all of our furniture and boxes and bags were in the house. We are so excited about our house and our new neighborhood. We live near so many of our friends and everyone hangs out outside at night. We can't wait to really be living there. The paint is almost done and it looks great. It should be done in a few days. Then there are just a few more things we want to fix before we move in. We haven't unpacked anything or brought over anything from my moms yet so that will take a little while. We're thinking we'll be there for good in about 2 weeks. That gives us time to try to ease into the work/daycare transition and then move. For some reason I want to start working while we still live at my mom's so Max isn't too overly confused. I start orientation on Monday, although I won't be actually seeing kids for a while after that.

One glitch that I have to mention is that during the weekend we had two run ins with 2 different police officers in Virginia due to not having a current inspection sticker on my car. About a month ago I tried to get my lincense and registration in Maryland but was not able to since I didn't have the title and we are in the process of switching insurance. I went through this whole process including getting a Maryand inspection and having to get a new windshield to pass the inspection. I think I spent around $400 total and still did not even get anything accomplished yet. I ended up just renewing my license in Virginia online since it expired at the end of June. The only problem was, in Virginia you need a safety inspection every 2 years and a sticker to put on your windshield. Mine expired on July 31st, so I figured it wouldn't be a problem since we were moving on August 4th so I would only be in Virginia for 2 days to pack, was I really going to get pulled over in that time? Apparently the answer is yes, twice.

The first time I was not in the car but my in-laws took Max to the park to go on the swings while my parents and I and Mark went to lunch with My brothers fiances parents who also live in Virginia Beach (I know, very ironic). They took my car since it had the carseat in it and took Max to go on the swings. They were approaced by a cop who noticed there was not a sticker on my windshield. They didn't know the story so they actually got a ticket! How obnoxious of the cop to give out of town grandparents a ticket when they were in VA Beach for literally 5 hours? I was livid when I found out and once I explained the story to my father in law who is a lawyer, he was sure that he could get out of the ticket if he went to court.

So the next day...our actual move out/move in day. I was the last to leave after the movers moved all of our stuff. I was literally 2 miles from being out of Virginia when I see a cop following me. I got nervous thinking, was I speeding, did I go through a red light? He pulled me over, gets out of the car, asks for my registration and everything, I was crying and couldn't even get the words out that it was my last trip back to Baltimore, I'm following the moving truck, I'm so sorry, etc. He was so mean and started talking about how I don't have an inspection sticker!! When I heard that was the reason I kind of started laughing and told him the whole long story about why my sticker is over due, etc and how this happened yesterday with my inlaws. I don't know if he bought it or not but I had all the receipts in my car to prove it. I felt like one of those people on that show COPS who has this crazy story that sounds so fake but it really was true.

So the point is...I probably woulnd't have had any truoble at all if I had just had the expired inspection sticker on my windshield. The cops probalby wouldn't have noticed anything, especially since it was only a few days overdue. But why did I not have an inspection sticker at all??? BECAUSE I HAD MY WINDSHIELD REPLACED TO PASS THE MARYLAND INSPECTION AND IT WAS ATTACHED TO THE WINDSHIELD THAT THEY GOT RID OF!!!!! The cop either believed me or just felt bad for me but he did not give me a ticket. I don't know if anyone reading this bothered to get through all of this or if you realize the irony of that story but seriously, who does this happen to? What a great way to end my experience as a Virginia resident. We were just not meant to live there.

I am never moving again.
