Max woke up at 5:15. Ugh, we're back to these way too early wake ups and this is just how its going to be for the summer. He wakes up when the sun comes up even though there are black out shades in his room. We've been locking him in there to avoid him running straight into Mallory's room and waking her up. It works about 50% of the time. This morning it worked and Mark took him downstairs and Mallory didn't wake up until around 7. Thats sleeping in to me. Once she was up,Mark and I switched and he got to go back to sleep for a few hours. This is our normal routine on the weekend. Then he took Max to the bank with him to get a lollipop (also a normal routine for Saturdays. I got to go back to sleep again during Mallory's nap from around 9:30 to 11! What a treat to get some extra sleep and I really needed it this week.
Mark side swiped a parked car at the bank but miraculously the scratch on my car (his car is already in the shop for something else ha!) rubbed right out. Max fell asleep on his ride home and Mark was able to get him into his bed where he slept from around 11-1. An early nap time is actually great on the weekend because it doesn't interupt whatever is planned for later in the day and hes extra tired around bed time. Grandma and Grandpa arrived to spend the day with us around 11:30 and since Max was still sleeping they got to play with Mallory. The poor girl is so confused when all the attention is on her. When Max woke up we were all starving so we went to California Pizza Kitchen. It was a very successful lunch for us
Max was so excited to be with Grandma and Grandpa today. He has been talking about it all week! "Grandma and Grandpa are coming...we're going to the pool"! Speaking of that, we couldn't decide if it would be a good idea or not. Mallory took a nap when we got home from lunch and Grandma and I went on a Fresh Market/wine/rum tasting/starbucks/walgreens run. (yeah there was flavored rum at the wine tasting today and the coconut was so delicious I bought a bottle and also got a free rum t-shirt). By the time we got back it was close to 5 so we were thinking the pool thing wasn't going to work out. Then somehow we said lets just do it and I was frantically running around throwing towels, diapers, changes of clothes, sippy cups and pb&j into my pool bag while yelling out orders at everyone else to help me change the kids into their bathing suits in a mad dash to get there with enough time to swim, eat dinner and be back for bed time. Its easy for anyone to say "lets just go to the pool" like its no big deal and you just hop in the car and go. It entails much more with 2 kids under 3 who are both in diapers and both require food and drinks and clothes and towels. Its hard to get it all together quickly but we did it (or I did it:) )We were in the car at about 5:15 and arrived around 5:30.
We did this for the first time last weekend with my parents and it was memorial day and So hot and So crowded and we went in the middle of the day. There was a wait to get a chair, a line for food. It wasn't the best first experience but we did learn from it. Today was not that way at all. we basically had the baby pool to ourselves.
Which is a good thing because apparently Max thinks pool=scream non stop and splash and pour water on everyone. I'm hoping that once this becomes more routine he'll calm down a bit but it doesn't look that way so far. Its like hes so excited he can't contain himself.
Last week Mallory cried when I tried to put her in the water. This time she got used to it and liked it much more. She went in the big pool with Mark and I and seemed to love it. I think at first she was just like "why is this bathtub cold get me out!"
There was a band playing Jimmy Buffet type music and both kids were dancing along. We got them out of the pool around 6:30 and changed into dry clothes and went to the snack bar for burgers and fries and sodas. Max was so good he even got to go back to the bar for a cookie. We sat at a table and everyone was relaxed and well behaved. We were all talking about what a nice time it was and how great the pool is and what a perfect time of day it was to come, etc. And I said "I'm having fun" and everyone kind of stopped and looked at me and I said "Have I ever said that before?". haha. Mark's mom said I said it at our wedding. It just seems like we are always trying to do these fun things and there is always some type of issue that gets in the way of truly enjoying ourselves but today I really did. It was a good time and I'm really excited for the rest of the summer.
We were there until about 7:30 and got home shortly before 8. Mallory happily had her bottle and went to bed (a smooth first non-nursing bedtime) and Max was asleep soon after. I'm hoping their tired enough to maybe make it to 5:45am tomorrow. Here's to lots of happy pool days and fun to come!
