Tantrum Time

Well we have definitely entered the tantrum phase and it is not pretty. I've already been in a few stores/restaurants when its happened but it has never been that bad. He'll throw himself on the floor and cry but I can usually get him out of the situation before it gets out of hand. Tonight was a different story. We were home and he had just gotten up from his late nap (he usually sleeps from 4:30-5:30 during the week because he falls asleep on the ride home from daycare). I took him downstairs and he was walking around the kitchen and slipped and bumped his head on the kitchen closet. It wasn't a bad fall at all and I expected him to just brush it off. He falls like that 20 times a day. Well for whatever reason that fall completely set him off and he cried, screamed, kicked and thrashed around for 20 minutes. Nothing I could do could calm him down. I have never seen him like that. He looked like he was foaming at the mouth with all the saliva from crying. It was so sad. Normally a baby einstein dvd will calm him down but our dvd player is broken (guess why?). It was just so heartbreaking to see him like that and I need to find a book or something to learn how to avoid that happening again or at least how to avoid it from getting to that point. I called my mom and she heard how bad it was and she actually came over to make sure he was ok (he stopped crying a few minutes before she got here). Having an infant seems easy compared to this! Although this time around I'll have an infant AND a toddler throwing a tantrum on the floor.
