An Easy Bedtime

I know I shouldn't even been saying this (typing this) out loud. But I just realized that our bedtime routine has become just that. A routine. Finally. I guess it has been kind of easy for a while now. But now I can really step back and realize what a difference a year or 2 has made. Just a little while ago I was having to sit outside of Max's room on my laptop until he was literally asleep. Or sit in his room until I thought he was sleeping and then try to tip toe out only to have him wake up from the floor creaking. It was a 2 hour process and ruined many of my nights. And then sometimes he'd wake up in the middle of the night and I'd have to do the same thing all over again. Now, Mallory has been going to bed before 8, Max is in bed between 8:30 and 9. I tell him a story about kindergarten (somewhere along the line we got away from reading books and got into me making up stories about him) and then I just leave. And he actually goes to sleep. And we don't see either of them until morning (well sometimes I have to step over Max who is sleeping in the hall way in the middle of the night on my way to the bathroom but that's another story) I know I'm totally jinxing myself but I just had to document that I actually am appreciative of this easier routine.

Mallory is talking so much more. She counts to 14 (or higher sometimes) sings lots of songs and the ABC's, is putting more words together like "where we going?", and "bye bye see ya" and "here we go!" It is wonderful to hear. She has also finally mastered pointing to the correct picture out of a group. For some reason she just took a while to get that concept and would just point to any random picture without really waiting to hear the question, think about it and then point to the right picture. It was really frustrating to me because for example, she knows what a tree is, what a cookie is, what a car is etc and I know that because she uses those words. But if I were to show her a picture of those 3 things and say point to the car, she would point to the cookie without even thinking about it. But now, thanks to the IPad (a gift from grandma and grandpa thankyou!), she is a pro at it and is pointing to the right picture named almost 100% of the time. We've seen a huge improvement with her in all areas in the last few months. Really even in the last few weeks.

This is my favorite picture of Mallory right now-it's such a perfect represenation of her at almost 2.5

So proud of my girl. And I am a huge proponent of the ipad for all learning purposes. Max couldn't do this AT ALL 2 weeks ago.

Nothing a few tracing apps couldn't fix! And a whole 10 months before Kindergarten. Just a few more things he needs to master before he is a true big kid. I have faith in him :)

Happy beautiful fall night!
