Mommy and Mallory had a great fall
I think I can finally get through this story without crying. I was running late to pick up Max at school of course. He is only there 9-12 on the days when I'm off so I have 3 hours to do everything I need to do and get back there. So I had Mallory in my arms and was walking really fast, not quite running. Before I knew it I tripped over my own two feet and a crack in the sidewalk and went flying in the air and down onto the sidewalk in front of his school. It was all so quick but in slow motion at the same time. The last thing I saw was the back of Mallory's head hitting the sidewalk. Actually I saw and heard it. A few people saw me fall and rushed over. People were offering to call an ambulance, it must have looked really bad. Mallory was screaming, I was just in shock and sitting there. I kept saying "I'm fine, I'm just worried about her"! and someone was finally like "you have to get up". I guess I was just sitting on the sidewalk for a while. The next few minutes is a blur because I was so scared that Mallory had a head injury. She stopped crying after a few minutes and was acting pretty normal but I was still really upset and scared. I went into Max's classroom and then realized I was in no shape to put him in the car and drive home so I asked his teachers if he could stay there for a little while so I could figure out what to do. He was not happy about this. Up until this point I had held myself together but I saw a friend who was trying to help me and she was like "you are really shaking are you sure you're ok" then I couldn't hold it in anymore and walked into the school office and completely lost it and started hysterically crying. The preschool director was in there and held the baby while I called the pediatrician. They said everything was probably fine but I could come in just to check her out. Then I called my mom and she left work to come get Max and help me. I ended up taking them to her house so I could hang out there before our doctors appointment and she could watch Max while I went. Mallory was acting completely normal but I just could not get the image of her little head hitting the ground out of my mind (and still can't). We went to the doctor and saw one of the nurses who couldn't find a scratch on her. I on the other hand have a pretty bad scrape on my knee and my elbow, scratches on both of my wrists and I was pretty sore everywhere the next day. I felt like I was in a car accident. I didn't even realize I was injured until hours after it happened. So I think the order of the fall was...I tripped, fell to my right knee, fell on my left elbow, all while holding onto Mallory tightly on my left hip, then the back of Mallory's head hit. So luckily I broke most of the impact before her poor little head hit the ground. We are very lucky. And I think I'll be using the stroller for a while just because I don't trust myself. And obviously I need to slow down. I'll take the looks I get from the teachers for being late over injuring my daugther while trying to make it at 12 on the dot. Isn't my life exciting??
