Carrie got married last weekend. After alot of stress and going back and forth on what we were going to to with Mallory for the weekend, we decided to bring her along. Mark was willing to stay with her in the hotel during the wedding and she could come to the rehearsal and sunday brunch so thats what we did. I was so nervous about bringing her on the plane. I was sure she would have swine flu by the end of the trip. We all got through it and I had so much fun. I'm not sure if it was because it was just a great wedding or because its been a while since I have been to a good friends wedding or because I was there without my husband but I really had the best time. I read a fun speech at the rehearsal dinner. I actually cut out a few paragraphs becuase it was so long. Carrie and I just have alot of history together. Here it is for anyone who is interested:
Hi, I’m Kim, I’m one of Carrie’s bridesmaids and Carrie and I have been friends since we were 4 years old. We have pictures of us standing next to eachother at my fourth birthday party wearing our little party dresses and looking so innocent. Little did we know that we would truly be lifelong friends and literally go through every single milestone together from preschool, camps, and sports to middle and high school, college, and remain such close friends into our adult life.
I would say I was a pretty good little girl. I never got in trouble on my own. But for some reason….throw Carrie into the mix, and we were the biggest trouble makers ever. We went to lots of different camps together…Beth Tfiloh, Camp Debut, and Camp Louise to name a few. We had the absolute worst reputation for our bad behavior. We were annoying on purpose and for some reason thought it made us cool if our counselors and the rest of the bunk hated us. Carrie would dare me to say something inappropriate to our counselor and for some reason I would always do it and I would be the one to get in trouble. I can’t count the times we had to have a special meeting with our counselor or coach about how bad we were and instead of taking it seriously, Carrie and I would be holding back our laughter and trying not to look at each other because we knew we would crack up.
We have so many childhood memories together. Singing to my dog at my house, lots of sleepovers and lots of time in your huge cool sunroom on Nacerima lane. Going to McDonalds where you would eat your big mac in layers and line up all the different sauces for your fries. We also won the Pikesville girls softball championship in 4th grade with Harvey as our coach. I was the catcher, and Carrie played first base. Speaking of first base, Carrie and I actually had our first kiss with the same boy. Not on the same night. What a lucky guy he was!
We were always carpooling to bat mitzvahs, the mall or movies and other events. We also thought it was very cool to dress as twins, not just when we were younger but well into high school. You would see us walking around Owings Mills mall in our matching flannel shirts, ripped jeans and construction boots while shopping for the perfect best friends necklace. We had our 12th birthday party and our sweet sixteen together at Orchard Skateland. As we got older my mom and Janet would always have to consult with eachother before we were allowed to go to any parties. As long as Carrie was allowed to go, I was too. We played basketball and softball together for Pikesville high. We took some trips together too including a weekend with Janet to the Candlelight motorlodge in ocean city. And of course, lots of nights out at 7 11 on Reisterstown Road. We also stayed in Ocean City for senior week with all of our friends when we watched the cops pour out all of our bottles of zima on the very first night we were there.
We both went to University of Maryland for college and although we ended up in different sororities with different groups of friends, our friendship seemed to never change when we were together. After college it was so sad to see Carrie and her family move away from Baltimore, but I was happy for her that she was following her dreams and obviously she knew what she was doing because it led her to Matt and the life that she has today. She came all the way from California to Atlantic City for only one night for my bachelorette party and again to Baltimore to be a bridesmaid in my wedding.
We are so lucky to live in this modern world of facebook and blogging because even though we live in different states, I really feel like Carrie is a part of my everyday life. Not a day goes by when we’re not IM-ing or commenting on each other’s pictures. If I ever am having a bad day, it’s pretty much a guarantee that I’ll be laughing after seeing what Carrie has been up to on her blog or facebook.
Even though she is always laughing and being funny, Carrie has a unique ability to make every detail of her friends lives seem like the most important and interesting thing she has ever heard. Just the other day, we were emailing about how I was going to witness her ketubah and Carrie asked “are you going to sign it Kim Fine, Kim Hyatt Fine, or Kimberly Lynn Hyatt Fine?” This is such a typical Carrie question!
She is always asking about my kids and wanting to know every detail about their lives too. The one thing she still doesn’t understand and is always asking is how the baby comes out. I’m hoping Matt will be able to explain that to her one day.
Carrie has always been a very happy person, but I truly have never seen her as happy as she has been over the past few years since she met Matt. I couldn’t be happier for both of you as you begin your life together tomorrow. I know your future will be filled with lots of love and happiness and definitely lots of laughter. Congratulations!!
Mazel Tov to Carrie and Matt!!
So after that exciting weekend, we came home to a boy who has not been acting normal since we left. He hasn't been eating or sleeping and I thought it was just because he was mad at us for leaving him. Then yesterday we got a call from school that he had 100.2 temperature and we had to pick him up. I took him to the doctor and they think its just a mild virus (not the flu). So I think alot of his recent behavior is because he was just coming down with something. As I've said before...it really is always something. I just don't get the no eating thing. Literally Max had cheese-its and milk and juice today. Thats it. Even when I'm sick I still want to eat so I just don't understand this stage. Its so frustrating. I spend the whole day just offering him different things. And its funny how at the beginning of the day I start off normal like...have a waffle, ok how about eggs, no? Ok how about some cheese? Then it gradually gets more and more unhealthy and by the end of the day I'm like cookies? ice cream? candy? Please, eat something before you go to bed! I don't care what it is.
I had a cute idea for Halloween but it didn't work out as planned. Do you think Max went along with wearing his costume? Nope. I don't blame him I guess, especially since he didn't feel well. Luckily I dressed them up a few days before Halloween to get some pictures. I know better than to depend on this night to get good pictures. Remind me next year to get them costumes that don't feel like costumes so they can just think they are wearing normal clothes. Live and learn:
