It's already here. Sad but true. Summer school is over, the kids have less than 2 weeks left of camp and I have less than 2 weeks until I go back to school. This has been a really crazy summer-with both of them in camp and me working every morning and taking an online class and trying to schedule various doctor's appointments, therapies, etc I think all I have really done in my free time is laundry-which let me say, there is an insane amount with 2 kids who have water play 2 times per week. "Water Play" really = running around in wet mud and coming home with bags full of hot wet towels. Not to mention, apparently August is birthday season because we have 2 birthday parties every single weekend this month. I'm not complaining-its nice to have something for the kids to do on the weekends to get us out of the house. Speaking of birthdays...
This one is 4:
His party went well and all the kids had fun. A look back at my boy on each birthday...
I haven't done this in a while so..
At 4 years old Max
~Remembers EVERYTHING you ever tell him and repeats it
~Has returned to not eating much-some days he just eats cereal.
~Seems to be more average in size compared to the others in his class-he used to be much taller than everyone else and now he's kind of the same.
~Goes to bed before 9 on a good night
~Has been waking up early again and sleeping in the hall or sometimes comes into our bed
~Loves hanging out with Zachary and Casey at camp
~Thinks gross things are funny (typical boy stuff)
~Is starting to recognize some words when they are written
~Still only scribbles when he draws/writes
~Loves electronics but now actually uses them rather than just carrying them around
~Often packs his bag full of "stuff" (cars, phones, sunglasses) and takes it in the car with him wherever we are going.
~Loves the pool and goes in all the way up to his face but doesn't go under
~Likes Cars and Toy Story Movies
Both kids have had a good summer. Not much else has been going on except I'm trying to get everything done that I put off for the whole summer. House cleaned, hair cut, etc. I have 2 full weeks where I am off but Max and Mallory still have camp in the mornings so that is a nice break. Although I must say that the past few days I have wondered what there is to do except count down the hours until it's an appropriate time to get ice cream, yogurt or a snowball. I'm not going to get into detail on this story but yesterday I visited 2 different McDonald's drive-thrus. There is a story that goes along with it that makes it not so glutenous but still, it says something about my summer days.
One more thing-the other day Mark and I randomly took the kids to Suburban House and not only did I have the most amazing "slammer" with eggs, pancakes, bacon and hash browns for dinner (no good excuse this time) but at one point I looked at Mark and I said wait a minute, both kids are sitting in regular chairs, eating food we ordered off the menu and noone in the restaurant is looking at us or asking us to leave. It was a first and it was amazing. Is this what it feels like for other families all the time?
It didn't last because a few minutes later Max was crying and demanding a cookie and Mallory was standing on her chair and then running in circles around the table and then kicking and thrashing around banging her head against Mark's shoulder because she didn't want to leave, but it did feel really good to look like we had it all under control for a few minutes. Maybe they really are going to be grown up one day.
