1. Max can read like 30 sight words. AND can "read" the entire "Giving Tree" book aloud including saying "this is the author and this is spine and the cover" and stopping at the end of each page to show the audience the pictures. I will get this on video soon. It's really amazing.
2. Mallory is saying 3, 4, and 5 word sentences. On her own. Things like "I want a juice box" and "Max is sleeping" and "Mommy be right back ok?" and "I play with Jojo" From what I hear from the SLP who sees her at school, most of what she is saying is not really "novel" meaning it's like she says the same types of sentences that she has memorized, not really coming up with her own new sentences. I believe that this is what is happening at school because I've learned she is not a performer (neither of my kids are) and does less there, but luckily I have a pretty good sense of what shes doing and as her mommy/personal-live-in-SLP I think she IS starting to come up with new sentences on her own and even if she weren't, that's kind of ok for where she is developmentally with her language skills. Max did the same for a while, although he was younger and by this point was fully conversational. But that is why she's getting help. She'll get there.
3. We survived 9 days of Mark being out of town. Where do I pick up my medal? (couldn't have done it without Gigi and Poppop)(and Quarry Wine)
4. I am reading The Hunger Games on my Kindle on my Ipad and it feels SO good to be this into a book. I can't wait to finish this post and transfer from my laptop to my ipad!
5. Mallory tries to do everything Max does including reading books out loud. It makes me kind of sad because she obviously is not at the same level as him. He'll be reading The Giving Tree and she'll be sitting next to him flipping through a completely unrelated book saying "boy was happy" "tree happy" as if those words can go along with any book. I do love how she looks up to him and wants to do everything her big brother does. I think it's so good for both of them to have those roles.
6. Max has finally reached a big boy milestone that I literally thought wouldn't happen until college. I'm not going to write about it in detail because he will be upset when he reads this when he's older (or next year when he is reading!) but I want to document it so that I never forgot that kids DO achieve things and get over things that you can't imagine really happening. Even if it's later than average. And then it ends up not seeming like a big deal after it's over. This has happened with nearly every thing I've been worried about with him.
7. Max has been SO easy to put to bed ever since he was 3.5 to 4 so I'm not complaining but recently he makes me sit in my room after putting him to bed and he'll come into my room a few times and ask me to take The Giving Tree book out of his room because he's scared of the old man.
8. I realize that if you are not familiar with The Giving Tree story, that a few of these won't make much sense. I also realize that I keep referring back to it but I guess it is just a big part of our lives these days.
9.Mallory got a balloon at a party today. By the end of the day, both kids were screaming for a turn to get to hold the string and literally going balistic when it was the other person's turn. I came up with a solution.
I think I should patent it. Or put it on pinterest.
10. I have a problem...
and I'm nowhere near done. I'm attempting to do some cake pop baby heads for a shower at work this week and maybe Hamentashen for Purim and frogs for Passover? It's getting out of hand.
It feels good to be back. Have a great week!
