Today was a good day

Remember that song? It's a 90s rap song and I only know all the lyrics because it has a line in it that says "I got a beep from KIM!!" Remember beepers?

So yeah it was a good day and we needed it. Without getting into too much detail (do I say that alot?), these last few weeks have just been draining, physically, emotionally, you name it. We just needed a good day with these kids and I think they knew that because things just kind of went well. Maybe it's because Mark was out of town for 3 days this week and that was just tough so now that he's back, doing anything with 2 of us seems easier than me on my own. Maybe it was because we got up and out of the house by 10:30 rather than waiting around all day and not getting out of the house until everyone is too cranky to do anything fun. Maybe it's because (dare I say it?) Max is almost 4 and just a little more rational and more of a boy, less of a baby every day.

Maybe it's because Miss Mallory will now consistently jump when I say jump, clap when I saw clap, point to her head, nose, toes, and say "eee eee eeee" and do a little dance when I say "what does a monkey say?". Finally...that girl is pretty stubborn. I don't blame her, I guess I am pretty annoying with all of my requests.

So...we went to the pool for the first time this season and what a difference than last year. Max is so much more self sufficient and Mallory can walk around the baby pool, get in and out on her own. They both LOVE the water, although Max is in desperate need of swimming lessons because he won't go under or really try to swim. Plus, this year I'm not worrying about the bottles and bringing food for everyone, the travel high chair. AND I only have 1 in diapers now. It's just easier. We all sat on the regular chairs, ate food from the snack bar (even if some of us only ate french fries) and got through the morning without any major catastrophes.

After the pool we hung out for a little bit outside, everyone took naps. I took Max on some errands with me and we actually hit Starbucks, the wine store, Fresh Market AND walgreens again with no major catastrophes. Who would have ever thought this would be possible? I didn't. I'm trying to remind myself how different max was when he was 2 compared to how he is now. It's hard because I look at Mallory and worry about certain things, wonder about the things she will or won't grow out of. What she will be able to do soon or what she will never be able to do. It's hard to remember that Max is the same Max who less than 2 years ago was barely talking and was opening and closing doors at birthday parties and whatever other crazy things he was doing. Now he is a little boy who I can just hang out with and have fun with and have real conversations with. Of course, I'm completely glorifying things and he 100% still has his moments, actually alot of moments, it's just nice to see this whole other side of him who is a true little boy and not a baby or a toddler. He cracks me up. Today at Walgreens I swiped my credit card of course pressed the wrong button to say cancel or credit. Why can't it just say "if this is a credit card, press here...if this is a check card, press here"? I always get it wrong. Anyway it beeped and Max said "Mommy, you have to press the red one" as if everyone knows that in Walgreens, it's the red one if it's a credit card. I love him.

And Mallory has become a total Daddy's girl. She completely lights up when he walks in the room and just cracks up at him no matter what he does. I rarely get spontaneous hugs like this...

and I have to WORK for this kind of laugh...

We ended the day with a night out for pizza with the kids and...wait for it....
everyone ate pizza from the restaurant, and sat in their seats and didn't scream or cry or make a scene. There was a moment when someone pulled someone elses pony tail but we quickly moved past it. So yes it was a good day!!

I never got to write about our trip to Bethany last weekend for Memorial day. In short...I wouldn't exactly call it relaxing but it was still fun.

Thanks to Grandma and Grandpa and Gigi and Poppop for making it all happen and for allowing us some down time and even a dinner out without the kids!!

Hope everyone is enjoying a relaxing Saturday night. Oh and the best part of this good day...both kids were in bed and sleeping by 9. A rare occasion in this house!

Good days make for good nights :)
